Union Bank of California and AcuPrint Technology Announce Positive Pay Referral Agreement

Press Release

SAN FRANCISCO & CARLSBAD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 5, 2002--
Union Bank of California's Commercial Clients to Implement AcuPrint Technology's SecurePay (TM) Software as Their Positive Pay Solution to Reduce Check Fraud

Union Bank of California, N.A., a $36 billion full-service bank with locations throughout California, Oregon and Washington, and AcuPrint Technology, an industry leader in secure payment transaction solutions, announced the establishment of a positive pay referral program to benefit the Bank's commercial clients with positive pay implementation and integration.

Union Bank of California is developing an aggressive campaign to prevent check fraud with its business clients by implementing AcuPrint Technology's positive pay solution, SecurePay. Positive pay is one of the strongest defenses to prevent and stop check fraud available today. The positive pay process exchanges check data between the client and their bank before checks are released for payment. When presented, checks are matched with the positive pay data and identified for any possible fraudulent discrepancies.

"We chose SecurePay from AcuPrint because of its advanced encryption, transmission and automation features," stated David Drake, vice president and unit manager with Union Bank of California. "The Bank has several established transmission products that have standardized our encryption, compression and digital certification protocols and SecurePay seamlessly integrates with all of these. SecurePay can automatically convert, encrypt and transmit our client's data files from multiple formats and accounts. This is just another step to meeting our commitment to provide our clients with the best protection against check fraud, and among many of the steps we are taking to educate, advise and provide services to our clients to help mitigate this very real threat to their financial well being."

Senior vice president Charles Whitney with the Bank's cash management sales added, "SecurePay is universally compatible with the various accounting systems and operating environments of our clients. It is important that the Bank be confident the solution we offer will function within the client's current environment and does not require additional software to work. SecurePay's adaptability significantly reduces the positive pay implementation time, allowing expedited fraud protection. Extending quality solutions, such as SecurePay, assures longevity in our commercial client relationships."

"Union Bank of California has been referring their commercial clients to us for over a year and we are pleased to be formalizing this relationship," said Wally Papciak, president of AcuPrint Technology. "The adaptability of the SecurePay solution is a result of our 13 years of engineering secure payment processes and building cash management transaction products that increase the productivity of ommercial accounting and banking environments, all while increasing the client's security and ultimately protecting them from fraud."

AcuPrint Technology will provide the SecurePay solution to Union Bank of California's commercial clients at a reduced license fee.
