Positive Pay File Conversion & Transfer Software

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Positive Pay?

Positive Pay is a customer authorization allowing the bank to pay specific checks. Upon issuing checks, the bank customer provides the bank with the issued check information. If an attempt is made to cash a check, the bank will not pay if the check information does not match the information provided by the customer.

Positive Pay has proven to be the most effective weapon against check fraud to date - preventing multiple major incidences of fraud against a single bank account.

To make the process as efficient as possible, the bank normally requires a computer text file in a very specific format. And SecurePay is the software that can generate the data file in accordance with the bank's specifications.

Is SecurePay compatible with my accounting application?

With a success rate of 99.3%, the answer is most likely "yes."

Most accounting applications are able to generate some kind of report containing issued check data (check register, check history, etc.). This is the file that SecurePay would use to capture the data that will be sent to the bank. Using SecurePay's Data Import Wizard, the user will create a template that tells SecurePay "what the file looks like."

However, if there is any doubt about compatibility, the customer is welcome to send us a data file to test for compatibility before they make a purchase.

How do I transmit the file to the bank?

The transmission specifications vary from bank to bank. While most banks allow you to transmit via the World Wide Web or FTP, there are many possible modes of transmission.

The most common method is via the bank's website. This can be done manually in your web browser, or automatically through SecurePay.

Do I need to install a transmission software (like ProCOMM or PC Manager)?

In most cases, no. There are a few banks that require a specific transmission environment, but most banks do not. And SecurePay contains its own transmission software so you do not have to purchase any additional software.

What does your software do that I couldn't do myself?

Well, nothing. You could build a file that matched your bank's specifications and contained all your issued check data. The problem is, it could take you a lot longer to create and may contain many more errors than if you had used SecurePay. Our software makes the whole process easier, more accurate and more secure.
